Cellular Respiration

Cellular Respiration

4.4 Overview of Cellular Respiration

When there's oxyen, cellular respiration lets out chemical energy from sugar and other carbonbased molecules to make ATP. This respiration occurs in mitochondria. Mitochondrion cannot make ATP from food. Glycolysis breaks down glucose to two three-carbon molecules and makes two molecules of ATP, this process doesn't need oxygen. Two parts of the mitochondrion are involved in cellular respiration. Krebs cycle make molecules that brings energy to the next part of cellular respiration. This cycle takes place in the matrix of the mitochondrion. 38 ATP molecules are created from one glucose molecule.

I learned more about the cellular respiration. All I knew back then was that photosynthesis and cellular respiration were opposites. I didn't know about the glycolysis and the krebs cycle. I also never learned where photosynthesis and cellular respiration occur.

 4.5 Cellular Respiration Detail (A)

Glycolysis is an ongoing process in all cells. The product of glycolysis will make more ATP molecules through cellular respiration if oxygen is available. Cellular respiration makes more ATP molecules. Krebs cycle could also be called citric acid cycle because it's the first molecule created. The krebs cycle is the first main part of cellular respiration. In the krebs cycle, there are six things that are going to happen. The pyruvate breaks down, then the coenzyme a bonds, a citric acid will form, the citric acid will be broken down, the five-carbon molecule will be broken down, and a four-carbon molecule will be rearranged.

I learned more about the krebs cycle. I learned about the things that would happen in this cycle. I also learned how the krebs cycle is the first step to cellular respiration. I even learned the other name you could call the krebs cycle and the reason why.

4.5 Cellular Respiration Detail (B)

You would need oxygen at the end to pick up electrons. The electron transport chain has four steps. Electrons are removed. Hydrogen ions are then transported from the proteins and hydrogen ions would build up inside the inner mitochondrial membrane. After, ATP are produced by the flow of hydrogen ions, Each pair of electrons that pass the electron transport chain can make an average of 3 ATP molecules. Oxygen will then enter on the fourth step. These oxygen will get electrons and hydrogen ions which would make water. The water molecules are then given off as waste products. Photosynthesis would need chloroplast to work. It reactant is CO2 and H2O.  Its electron transport chain is protein within thylakoid. Its cycle of chemical reaction is the calvin cycle. Its products are sugar and O2. Cellular Respiration would need mitochondrion to work. Its reactants are sugar and O2. Its electron transport chain is protein within inner mitochondrial membrane. Its cycle of chemical reaction is the krebs cycle. Its products are CO2 and H2O.

I learned about the four step to the electron transport chain.I learned what happens in those steps. I learned about the stuff they move and take out. I also learned the difference between photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
